World Hunger is a massive issue that occurs through out the world, but is also an issue in schools across Canada. The reason for Hunger in the school is because; Students have no money, students cannot find foods with protein and vitamins, and students cannot find food that will fit their budget.
First of all, students just do not have the money to buy lunches. One of the biggest reasons for this is because the students have spent their money on drugs, alcohol, and "smokes", AKA cigarettes. Another major contributor to the issue is that kids cannot get jobs, either because they are lazy, or they are too poor to get a "big bucks" job because they won't be accepted because of their reputation. There are several ways to help students with this specific problem: you can start a fund raiser for students in your school with this problem, or you can start it in you school where fruits and vegetables will be handed out, or you could start a day of the week where their is a buffet for some categories of foods.
Secondly, students do not know what foods contain protein and vitamins, and where to get these foods. One of the most nutritional foods out here in Canada are cans of salmon, salads with out any sauces, and also whole-wheat sandwiches with turkey, because most turkey meats you find do not have any additives. At schools, students are going out and buying sugary drinks and candies for snack, which in fact are almost all sugar, and so if you are hungry as it is, and you then eat a candy bar, or drink a sugary drink, you will be hyper for a period of time, but then fall into a hard and very brutal blood sugar crash, and at this point you feel so weak and nauseous, that if you were to eat, you would likely throw up. To prevent this kind of thing from happening, you should try to find foods with protein like:
1. Most meat except ham, bologna, and beacon because these meats are processed so they will have little protein.
2. Nuts, like peanuts and almonds, but careful not to get salted almonds or peanuts, as you will not receive the full nutrition benefit.
3. Note: An other thing you should avoid so you do not get a blood sugar crash are carbohydrates (like any sort of bread). They give the effect that you are full once you have eaten the bread, but that is just because the bread has expanded in your stomach, instead of being full, like you have just eaten a huge amount of nutritional rich food.
Finally, students have a difficult time finding foods, which are nutritional and healthy, but also a food that fits in their budget. In Canada we have it in stores that the price on something almost never includes the taxes (for business reasons), and so when you get to a food that fits in your budget, is high in vitamins and proteins, then you get all exited until you get to the counter and realize you are 40 cents short. Bummer. Getting to the point, it is difficult to find healthy and nutritional foods at a low price, and it is even harder to find where these foods are cheap or where you can get good deals. To help students in your school who may have this problem, you could start by handing out pan flits with information on:
1. Where to find the nutritional and high in protein foods
2. How much the food costs, maybe some prices that would include the taxes on the food
3. And also list where they can find nutritional foods that have discounts.
4. Note: It would be a good idea to use a visual map, so the students would be able to find the food as easy as possible.
5. IMPORTANT NOTE: In some schools this would not work because the school would not allow students to hand out these pan flits because it could cause the sales in the schools cafeteria to decease.
Also more many schools, they do not have a large enough town to find a big enough variety of the nutritional foods, so if that does not work, then try to get the food before or after school.
Conclusion: With these very important and useful notes and ideas, you can help kids from starving from food, and then transform your school an then spread the word so other students can get the opportunity to each healthy and nutritional foods.
